How does an RN get started in travel nursing?

Dear Donna,

I would like to do travel nursing. How do I get started?

Dear Wants to be a Travel Nurse,

Before embarking on this type of work, it’s always a good idea to speak with current or recent travel nurses. This will familiarize you with the ins and outs of travel nursing to be sure it is right for you, to learn what questions to ask when seeking an agency to represent you and to get recommendations for travel nurse agencies with good reputations.

Find travel nurses through social media channels such as LinkedIn and Facebook or in online nursing communities where you can post questions to other group members. Read “The scoop on informational interviewing” for advice on how to approach these conversations.

Once you’ve received recommendations and have done some research, the next step is to register with one or two of them.

Here’s a short piece about travel nursing you may find interesting.

Best wishes,
Donna
