CTCA nurse receives DAISY award

Patricia Eckenrode, BSN, RN, a nurse at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, was recognized with a DAISY award for her commitment to support the patients and caregivers she works with, according to a news release.

Eckenrode is known for her empathy as a supervisor in care management at CTCA Eastern Regional Medical Center. As an oncology nurse, she describes her role as being the patients’ “go-to girl,” assisting them after discharge, chemotherapy and other issues and providing support to the caregivers, according to the release. Eckenrode’s role extends “far beyond the hospital walls,” according to the release. During one patient’s experience, Eckenrode ensured that, per the patient’s request, he was home and comfortable with his family, and she took the time to sit and talk with the patient’s family. She was even willing to spend time on the phone to provide support to a caregiver of a patient who was no longer at CTCA. Most recently, at CTCA’s annual “Celebrate Life” event, a celebration honoring five-year cancer survivors, Eckenrode video chatted from the event with an individual who was unable to personally attend the festivities, according to the release.

Eckenrode is president of Delaware County Emergency Nurses Association and PR chair for Pennsylvania State Emergency Nurses Association.
