Fran Laukaitis, BSN, MHA, RN, FACHE, has become the first nurse to be appointed as president of Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas. Laukaitis, who served as interim president and CNO at Methodist Charlton, assumed her new role March 9, and became the first RN president of a Methodist Health System facility.
“It is a unique privilege to serve in the community in which you live,” Laukaitis said in a news release. “Our primary focus at Methodist Charlton is to do what’s right for the patient, every time. I look forward to serving our patients, their families, and our communities, and leading the dedicated nurses, physicians, and staff who make it their mission every day to save and improve lives through compassionate, quality care.”
Laukaitis began her nursing career with HCA hospitals in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Texas. Her first CNO role was in 1999 with Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Mont. After spending seven years as CNO, she served another four years as COO. In 2010, she joined Methodist Charlton as CNO.
During her time at Methodist Charlton, Laukaitis has been instrumental in improving the quality of care provided to all patients, according to the release. The number of patients who leave the ED without being seen has been greatly reduced. Patient satisfaction results have improved dramatically. New units, such as the intermediate care unit, have been opened to better serve the needs of the hospital’s population. Joint Commission surveys have been successful and Methodist Charlton now has a STEMI program for fast heart attack care, as well as primary stroke accreditation.
“In addition to being well-educated and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Fran brings a wealth of knowledge both in operations management and nursing to this role,” Methodist Health System Executive Vice President and COO Pamela Stoyanoff said in the release. “Laukaitis is a resident of the Best Southwest area, and is familiar with the communities Methodist Charlton serves as well as our great group of employees who work there. ”
