CTCA nurse receives DAISY Award for compassionate care to patients

Janet Mayani, RN, a nurse at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, recently was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her exceptional commitment to personally connect with patients and caregivers at CTCA, according to a news release.

A dedicated nurse on the inpatient team at CTCA, Mayani recognizes the importance of kind gestures. As an oncology nurse, she is involved in direct patient care and practice including assessing a patient’s physical and emotional status, health history, knowledge of the disease and treatment, according to her nominator.

“Janet truly goes the extra mile for her patients,” her nominator wrote. “Even the simple, yet meaningful, act of walking to a convenience store for coffee with an emotionally struggling caregiver demonstrates Janet’s exceedingly high compassion for the people she crosses paths with, even with a full schedule as a mom, student and nurse.

“Janet finds the time to go above and beyond her call of duty by giving caregivers and patients the extra attention they deserve to alleviate their worries. She says her mantra is to ‘look beyond the illness and see the person behind it. When I come to work I just come to work, I never think I’m coming to work with cancer patients; I just come to work like everybody else.’”
