Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove was named as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation for the sixth time. Good Samaritan is one of 10 hospitals in Illinois named to the list, published by Truven Health Analytics, formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters, according to a news release.
“Our 100 Top Hospitals recognition reflects a tremendous commitment to high reliability and performance excellence by the associates, physicians and volunteers of Good Samaritan Hospital,” Dave Fox, the hospital’s president, said in a news release. “Congratulations to all for collaborating on the delivery of truly great care for the people we serve.”
The annual 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates hospitals on overall organization performance, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. It compares hospitals with similar facilities in terms of size and teaching status, according to the release.
Good Samaritan was among nearly 3,000 short-term, acute care, nonfederal hospitals evaluated by Truven Health. Researchers used public information to evaluate performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
The winning hospitals were announced in a recent edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
