How Can I Find a Career Coach in My Area?

Nurse reviewing documents on laptop

Dear Donna,

I am looking for a career coach who will help me decide what area of nursing is best for me. I have been an RN for four years and need a change. I will be relocating and think this is a good time to evaluate what I want in a career. How can I find a career coach in my area?

Getting Ready to Relocate

Dear Getting Ready to Relocate,

Relocation is indeed a perfect time to make a change. To get you started, read "How to find your forte". The article provides tips and advice for beginning the process of deciding where to go when you need a change. Regarding finding a career coach, I would suggest you check with your local chapter of the American Nurses Association, whether or not you are a member. You can also ask people you know and do an Internet search for nurse career coach and RN career coach. A nurse career coach is preferable since most non-nurse coaches are not aware of the vast skill set possessed by the average nurse nor are they aware of the range of opportunities available. Since most coaches work by phone, you do not necessarily need to find someone geographically close to you. And for some additional tips on making a smooth transition to your new location, read "Get ready to relocate."

Best wishes,

Donna
