Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has been named a Screening Center of Excellence by the national Lung Cancer Alliance for its commitment to safe and efficient lung cancer screenings, according to a news release.
This is another example of our commitment to a multidisciplinary approach to patients at risk for malignancy, Cliff Connery, MD, a thoracic surgeon and medical director of the medical centers Dyson Center for Cancer Care, said in the release.
We have created a comprehensive team that is focused on all aspects of care, including screening, prevention, minimally invasive staging and diagnosis to advanced treatment techniques and supportive care. In addition, our program will contribute to the body of research that is ongoing to try to improve our understanding as to who would most benefit from CT scan screens.
Vassar Brothers joins more than 300 centers nationwide designated by the alliance for practicing responsible, low-dose CT screenings, according to the release.
Centers of Excellence must include clear information on the risks and benefits of CT screenings, referrals of smoking patients to tobacco cessation programs and timely results.
