Mindy Tallis, BSN, RN, has been appointed director of utilization management at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, N.Y. Tallis will oversee the admission and case management/discharge departments at the specialty physical rehabilitation hospital, according to a news release.
[She] brings a wealth of expertise and experience to this position, Helen Hayes CEO Edmund J. Coletti said in the release. She is extremely knowledgeable about the hospitals array of rehabilitation programs and services, as well as insurance issues, admission criteria and follow-up care. I am confident that she will be an excellent resource for patients and their families, physicians, nurses, case managers, discharge planners and other healthcare professionals.
Tallis will manage the staff of the admission referral center, which coordinates all admissions to inpatient rehabilitation at the hospital. This includes the clinical liaisons, who facilitate the admission process by offering an on-site assessment designed to ensure patients receive the appropriate level of medical and therapeutic care to meet their needs and rehabilitation goals. Tallis will also oversee the case management department, whose staff coordinates discharge planning for every patient.
Tallis began her career at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla. She has held supervisory positions in several acute care hospitals, including the Neurological Institute and Orthopaedic Hospital at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan.
She joined the nursing staff at Helen Hayes in 1993 and served as the nurse manager on the stroke rehabilitation service. Most recently, she was the clinical liaison serving patients and referring physicians and hospitals in the Bergen County, N.J. region.
