Loyola nursing school names associate research dean

Karyn Holm, MSN, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, has been named associate dean for research at Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Maywood, Ill. She returns to Loyola after serving there as a professor from 1992–2001 and as chairwoman in the department of medical-surgical nursing from 1992–1999.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Holm has returned to Loyola,” Vicki Keough, PhD, APRN-BC, ACNP, FAAN, dean, MNSON, said in a news release. “She is a seasoned nurse researcher and academician who brings valuable mentoring experience to this role.
Her vast experience makes her an ideal fit to guide our young faculty and students.”

Holm comes to Loyola from DePaul University, where she served as a professor in the school of nursing. She continues as professor emerita at DePaul. Holm has held faculty positions at University of Illinois at Chicago and the former Rush-Presbyterian hospital. She also was a staff nurse at various hospitals in the region.

“My career has prepared me to help others shine,” Holm said in the release. “I look forward to helping our next generation of faculty advance their work and see new possibilities in the profession of nursing.”

Holm has presented and published hundreds of studies and is especially interested in women’s health and heart disease. She received DePaul University’s Women of Spirit and Action Award, a mentorship award at University of Illinois at Chicago and the SAGE Award from the Illinois Institute for Nursing Leadership. She also is a fellow for the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association.
