AWHONN recognizes two West region fetal heart monitoring instructors

Two West region nurses were among five honored with Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor Recognition Awards for the first quarter of 2014 by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

The honorees include Rebecca Chavez, BSN, RN, with Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., and Melissa Gabaldon, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, with Presbyterian Hospital Family Birthing Center in Albuquerque, according to a news release.

Chavez has 22 years of experience as a nurse in high- and low-risk labor and delivery at the medical center. Gabaldon works as a night shift permanent charge nurse and clincal practice leader at the birthing center.

“Our instructors embody AWHONN’s Fetal Heart Monitoring Program goal of promoting the health of women and newborns through their dedication to providing the best education in fetal heart monitoring,” AWHONN”s CEO, Lynn Erdman, MN, RN, FAAN, said in the release. “We’re grateful to have such a talented team of instructors and excited to recognize these outstanding individuals for their impact on communities across America.”
