Maryland RN who helps comfort man in critical care wins DAISY AwardMichelle Storks, RN
Michelle Storks, RN, of the CCU at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md., received a DAISY Award in July. She was nominated by the wife of a patient who credits Storks with helping save her husbands life.
The nominator said her husband was brought to Carroll Hospital Center in February and was placed in the CCU where Storks was his nurse.
I cant stress enough how compassionate and caring Michelle was to my husband, me and my family, the nominator wrote. If he showed any signs of becoming agitated, Michelle knew exactly how to calm him. She spoke to him in such a calm, soothing manner and she would explain exactly what was going on. I could see the relief and comfort in my husband when he heard her voice.
When the patient was moved out of the CCU, the nominator said Storks told her what to watch for and how to deal with an emergency situation. Those words of advice are what saved my husbands life, the nominator wrote. If she had not been as caring as she was and took the time to answer my questions and explain this to me, I may have never been able to see my husband again.
Michelle is not just an excellent nurse, but, to me, shes my husbands guardian angel, the nominator wrote. You can tell this is not just a job to Michelle, it is her passion.
