Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center earns Planetree designation

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center has been named a Planetree Designated Patient-Centered Organization by Planetree, Inc., an international patient advocacy group. With this designation, Sharp Chula Vista and its on-campus skilled nursing facility becomes one of 62 healthcare organizations in the world and the first co-located hospital and skilled nursing facility in the nation to receive this prestigious recognition since the Planetree program’s launch in 2007, according to a news release.

“Planetree designation is a testament to the way our staff and affiliated physicians work together every day to involve patients and family members in their care,” Pablo Velez, PhD, RN, CEO, said in the release. “They are dedicated to providing the high-quality and compassionate care we would all like to receive if we were patients.

Sharp Chula Vista began working toward Planetree designation three years ago. Since then, staff, physicians and volunteers have worked to address more than 60 components of care, including patient-provider interactions, access to information and
family involvement.
