Good Samaritan Hospital awards nurses with annual honors

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, West Islip, N.Y., recently honored nurses at its 10th annual Outstanding Nursing Excellence Awards ceremony.

The winners represent an array of nursing and support staff roles at the medical center.

“Good Samaritan is a Magnet designated hospital, nursing’s highest honor,” Senior Vice President of Patient Care and CNO Jeanne Dzurenko, MPH, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, said in the release. “It underscores the commitment of all staff, within all departments, to continually work together to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of patients and their families. This year’s winners were chosen for their dedication and commitment to nursing.”

This year’s winners were as follows:

Outstanding Nursing Colleague – Denise White, director of nursing finance
Outstanding Nurse Preceptor – Catherine DeMonte, RN
Outstanding Clinical Leader in Surgery: Michelle Spezia, RN
Mother/Baby Outstanding Support Staff Preceptor – Cheryl Schrepf, NA
Outstanding Clinical Leader in Maternity –
Lisa Giarraputo, RN
4 Main Outstanding Nurse Preceptor –
Jacqueline Hutchinson, RN
4 Main Outstanding Clinical Leader –
Jennifer Mais-Cuello, RN
3 South Outstanding Nursing Colleague –
Melody Cook, NA
3 South Outstanding Nurse Leader – Maria Lehnert, RN
3 Main Outstanding Clinical Leader – Yenny Belloso, RN

Candidates were nominated based on their achievements and chosen as winners because of the exceptional qualities they exemplify, according to a news release.
