What can a nurse desperate for a job change do if she cannot attend a Career Alternatives for Nurse seminar?

Question:

Dear Donna,

Dear Donna: I am not able to attend your Career Alternatives for Nurses seminar in New York City this month. Will you be offering it again anytime soon? I am desperate for a change.

Desperate

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Desperate,

Career Alternatives for Nurses seminar will be offered again on March 25, 2015, in Atlantic City, N.J. (http://www.nurse.com/events/ce-seminars). Be sure to register early because some seminars sell out as did the one in New York this year.

You can use the home study version of the program (http://ce.nurse.com/Professional-Development).

Do not wait until 2015 to start exploring your options and making contacts. Get out to nursing career fairs in your area now. If you’re in the New York area, there’s one Oct. 28 (http://www.nurse.com/events/career-fairs). Because these events do wind down this time of year, you also should get out to professional networking events such as association meetings, awards events and even holiday parties sponsored by chambers of commerce and other nursing/healthcare associations. You never know from where the information, idea, contact or opportunity will come. Plus, getting out to networking events is a good way to hone your self-marketing and networking skills, both of which get rusty if you haven’t used them in a while. These events are a great way and place to expand your professional network, get up to date with job market trends and even get job leads. Networking is known to be a great way to explore options, find jobs and get hired.

Best wishes,
Donna
