St. Charles Hospital, Port Jefferson, N.Y., has received accreditation as a comprehensive bariatric surgery center with adolescent qualifications.
Accreditation was granted by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
The adolescent program provides an individualized treatment plan for young adults ages 15 to 18, according to a news release. St. Charles was recognized as a comprehensive bariatric surgery center by MBSAQIP in June 2014.
Comprehensive accreditation with adolescent qualifications from MBSAQIP speaks to both the expertise of our surgeons in performing a complete range of customized surgical procedures and to our programs comprehensive offerings, Jim OConnor, executive vice president/chief administrative officer at St. Charles, said in the release.
Bariatric surgeon John Angstadt, MD, said he and his team, specialize in a multidisciplinary approach to weight loss through both surgical and nonsurgical methods.
