SUNY Downstate nurse anesthesia students taking part in clinicals at SBH

SBH Health System in the Bronx is serving as a clinical site for the first class of students in the nurse anesthesia program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Nursing, Brooklyn.

The SRNAs began their clinical practicum in July. The program prepares RNs with the advanced skills and judgment required to practice as nurse anesthetists, according to Rory Sweeny McGovern, EdD, RN, director of education and professional development, SBH Health System.

SRNAs in the 27-month program work under the direction of Joe Jennas, MS, CRNA, professor, SUNY Downstate.

Rene Bouquet, CRNA, MS, chief nurse anesthetist, department of anesthesiology/practice administrator, functions as the students’ associate professor while the SRNAs work at SBH.

The 61-credit course accepts students annually for the fall term.
