The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health The gift will fund scholarshipSciences at Florida International University in Miami has received a $650,000 gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust. The gift will fund scholarships to support students enrolled in accelerated BSN programs, according to a news release.
The announcement was made by Dean Ora L. Strickland, RN, PhD, FAAN, and marks the first gift awarded to the college by the Fuld Trust, which is the nations largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education.
The magnitude of this gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust will make a real difference in Florida International Universitys ability to open doors for more promising students to enter our programs and fulfill their dreams to become nurses, Strickland said in the release.
The funds will be used to support high academic achieving, ethnically diverse students who enroll in one of the colleges three accelerated BSN programs: the nations first foreign-educated physicians BSN/MSN program; the medic-to-BSN program; and, beginning in January, an accelerated BSN option for students seeking a nursing career for their second degree. The gift will be fulfilled over a three-year period, addressing short-term and long-term financial objectives.
