Lourdes Health System in Camden, N.J., recently named Carl Hammill, RN, ICU, Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, and Kelly Marshbank, RN, critical care unit, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, as its DAISY Nursing Award winners for the second quarter of 2014, according to a news release.

The award is presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives and is designed to recognize the extraordinary efforts that nurses perform every day, according to the release.

Hammill was honored for his ability to comfort patients and their family members.

One of his nominators talked about the compassionate care Hammill gave his brother. “Carl gave his total undivided attention with our concerns and acted on them,” the nominator said. “Carl went above and beyond in the care of our brother.”

Marshbank was honored for her patient-centered care. One of her nominators talked about the exceptional care she showed a patient: “Kelly stayed with this patient for about an hour after her shift. It was obvious how much this little act of kindness made such a difference to the patient.”

The DAISY award is presented to a nurse from each of the Lourdes hospitals every quarter, according to the release.
