Pace hosts webinar on appreciative inquiry in nursing education

Pace University’s Lienhard School of Nursing in the College of Health Professions, Manhattan, recently gathered healthcare thought leaders for a webinar on appreciative inquiry in nursing education.
According to a news release, Pace faculty members, along with Jeanie Cockell, EdD, author of the book “Appreciative Inquiry in Higher Education: A Transformative Force” addressed the topic and discussed what it is and how it is changing the culture of the Lienhard School of Nursing.
Appreciative inquiry is a theory and practice for approaching organizational change that focuses on the positive to correct the negative, according to the release.
Cockell, who has worked since 1999 as an educational and organizational consultant, was among the speakers.
Harriet R. Feldman, RN, PhD, FAAN, dean of the Lienhard School of Nursing and College of Health Professions, addressed how appreciative inquiry is the foundation of Lienhard’s quality improvement process and how it relates to accreditation.
Joanne Singleton, RN, PhD, professor, chairwoman of Pace’s department of graduate studies and director, DNP program, discussed how appreciative inquiry was piloted with Pace’s DNP program and expanded to include all of the nursing school.
Lin Drury, RN, PhD, professor, presented on how appreciative inquiry is being used on the undergraduate level.
Lucille Ferrara, RN, EdD, MBA, associate professor at Pace, told attendees how appreciative inquiry uses a positive lens for evaluation.
