VNSNY nurse receives top honor from national Visiting Nurse organization

A New York nurse was honored this spring with a top national award from the Visiting Nurse Associations of America.
VNSNY’s Rose Madden-Baer, RN, DNP, MHSA, CPHQ, CHCE, who serves as vice president, clinical operations strategy and development, won the VNAA’s 2014 Innovative Leader of the Year Award at the group’s annual meeting in April in Las Vegas.
Madden-Baer’s award recognizes innovative contributions to VNSNY’s delivery of care, including her leadership in developing and disseminating evidence-based models of care, her work implementing VNSNY’s highly successful Behavioral Health model, and her spearheading of VNSNY’s participation in the innovative Duke Population Care Coordinator Program, as well as community surveillance efforts after Superstorm Sandy, according to a news release.
Marki Flannery, president of VNSNY’s affiliate, Partners in Care, was presented with VNAA’s Administrative Leader of the Year Award.
VNSNY also was selected as a finalist for the inaugural AgeSmart Employer NYC Award, a program that recognizes organizations committed to creating an environment where employees ages 55 and older can thrive. The competition, hosted by the New York Academy of Medicine and AgeFriendly NYC (a partnership between NYAM, the New York City mayor’s office, and the city council), honored its winners at an awards ceremony earlier this year.
The judges, according to the release, said they were impressed with VNSNY offering opportunities to late-career employees for continuing training, education and certification — particularly the Distinguished Lecturers program (80% of whom are 55 or over) and Geriatric Education Program in Home Care certification course. Judges also recognized that Partners in Care, a VNSNY affiliate, has won the Mature Workers “Most Hires” Award from the City of New York’s Department of the Aging three times in the past decade and a high number of internal and external awards have been won by VNSNY’s late-career employees.
