NMSU School of Nursing director receives Enriquez Professorship

New Mexico State University School of Nursing Director and Associate Dean for the College of Health and Social Services Pamela Schultz, RN, PhD, has been selected for the Elisa E. and Antonio H. Enriquez Professorship.

“Dr. Schultz is an outstanding administrator,” Tilahun Adera, dean of the College of Health and Social Services in Las Cruces, said in a news release. “She also is an outstanding scholar. Her work in various areas in cancer research and in many different disciplines has distinguished her to receive this professorship. The Enriquez Professorship is awarded only to those who are very accomplished. We are very proud that she is the recipient of this very prestigious award.”

“I am very honored to receive the Enriquez Professorship,” Schultz said in the release. “I’m really pleased that the Archuleta family assists the school
of nursing.”

Daniel and Nancy Archuleta created the endowment in 2003 to honor Nancy’s parents, because her mother always wanted to become a nurse.

“She was the family nurse,” Archuleta, a Mesilla Valley native, said in the release. “She used herbs and cured us with all kinds of non-traditional remedies. She was amazing that way. When this opportunity came about, I felt like this was a way to honor my mother and my father.”

Schultz has 34 years clinical experience at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She earned her PhD from Texas Woman’s University in 2002. Schultz has written multiple publications about oncology and violence against woman. Her other areas of expertise include quality of life, cancer and other chronic disease survivorship, psychiatric mental health nursing and equine-assisted psychotherapy.
“It’s just wonderful to be able to help someone help others,” Archuleta said. “I would encourage others to think of this as a way of giving. It’s a great sense of fulfillment to do it.”
