We typically think of “detached” as a negative word, associated with other words like disengaged, emotionless, or cold.
But learning to detach can be a healthy way of letting go when we are mired in others’ negativity, unreasonable demands or mistreatment. Holding on to that external negativity can stoke the fires of anxiety, stress and resentment. Releasing them can free us to take better care of ourselves and others.
