Englewood (N.J.) Hospital and Medical Center recently was awarded the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program.
Self-management is a critical component of diabetes treatment, Mary OConnor, RN, BSN, CDE, diabetes program manager at EHMC, said in a news release. We are dedicated to helping our patients and their families gain the everyday skills they need to successfully manage their diabetes, through a combination of team support, clinical guidance and education.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diabetes is the countrys seventh-leading cause of death. EHMCs program covers a range of topics for patients with diabetes and pre-diabetes, including weight control, carbohydrate counting, exercise, management of blood sugars, medication and stress.
The certificate signals EHMC meets the national standards for diabetes self-management education programs and that its healthcare team can provide participants with a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.
