Public health administrator group honors longtime N.J. nurse

Jane Scarfo, RN, BSN, recently was honored by the New Jersey Association of Public Health Nurse Administrators as the organization’s 2013 Public Health Nurse of the Year.

Scarfo “exemplifies the practice of public health nursing both in her health department and as a very active member of NJAPHNA,” Marilynn Bernstein, RN, BSN, NJAPHNA president, said in a news release announcing the annual honor.

Scarfo serves as the public health nursing supervisor of Clifton, N.J., and is in her 34th year in public health. The award from NJAPHNA was presented at the group’s annual winter meeting at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville, N.J. The event included educational programs and the installation of new officers.

“I feel very honored to be a recipient of this award,” said Scarfo, a 1977 graduate of Blooomfield (N.J.) College. “It is the highlight of my career, and I am proud to be an active member of NJAPHNA.”
