How should a travel nurse list his/her travel nursing experience? Every assignment? Per agency?

Question:

Dear Donna,

I have been a travel nurse for nearly three years and am looking to settle in one location. Although I already have a CV listing my past experiences, I would like to make a resume to present to potential employers. How do I go about listing my travel experience? Should I list every assignment, the two travel agencies I traveled with or something different entirely?

Travel Nurse

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Travel Nurse,

It is absolutely not necessary, nor advisable, to list all of your assignments or even the agencies you worked for, if more than one. I recommend listing it this way:

“TRAVEL NURSE 2012-Present’ would be your job title, and underneath it, verbiage similar to the following, which would reflect your work as a traveling nurse: “Worked for various travel agencies on short-term, critical care assignments across the country from Hawaii to Maine.”

You can then go on to list several specific experiences or accomplishments from your travel experiences as you would for a traditional job.

Best wishes,
Donna
