Florida RN earns 2013 Inspired Comfort APN category grand prize

Capt. Romeatrius Moss, RN, MSN, APHN-BC, DNP, U.S. Air Force, Hurlburt Field, Fla., earned the Cherokee Uniforms-sponsored 2013 Inspired Comfort grand prize in the APN category, according to a news release.

Moss was one of five nurses and one volunteer honored for their impact on the lives of others through extraordinary patient care, sacrifice and innovation while serving as an inspiration to others, according to the release.

Moss is the healthcare integrator and disease manager with the 1st Special Operations Medical Group at Hurlburt Field Air Force Base, according to the release. She founded the Mississippi Gulf Coast Black Nurse Association and established the Mississippi Gulf Coast chapter of the Medical Reserve Corps, which focuses on improving the health and safety of local communities while helping to prepare for and respond to public health and medical emergencies.

Mentoring nurses and community impact

Since Moss founded the MGCBNA in 2008, she has mentored more than 500 nurses and her efforts have had an impact on more than 200,000 coastal residents through education and healthcare services. She has created and implemented 20 programs for the association, including HIV/AIDS prevention programs and a teen pregnancy-reduction program for female African-American students in fourth through 11th grades. In 2012, she donated more than 1,200 hours to the communities
she serves.

The 2013 award categories included RNs, APNs, students enrolled in nursing school and other non-physician healthcare professionals. Judges selecting the honorees include Cherokee Uniforms professionals. The grand prize winners in each category receive an all-expenses-paid Caribbean cruise for two, according to the news release.
