Can you tell me if employers frown upon general MSN degrees if obtained from an online college?

Dear Donna,

I want to go back to school for my MSN. Can you tell me if employers frown upon general MSN degrees if obtained from an online college?

Wonders About Online Schools

Dear Wonders About Online Schools,

Online education has become very popular and widely accepted, as long as the school is properly accredited. For nursing degrees, the programs should be accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (www.acenursing.us/accreditedprograms/programSearch.htm) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation/accredited-programs). You also can check with both entities to see what the accreditation standing is of the college you are considering attending since accreditation is sometimes suspended.

When considering a particular school, do an Internet search and use social media (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn) to find recent news stories about the college and/or their reputation and to find other students/graduates from the program or school to learn of their experiences.

Best wishes,
Donna
