Angela Peacemaker, an RN at Bayhealth Kent General in Dover, Del., recently received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

According to a news release, co-workers shared stories of Peacemaker’s devotion to patients. Her caring for one patient in particular stood out to them. When a cancer patient’s insurance company ended his coverage hours before discharge, Peacemaker called pharmacies across the state to find a way to have the patient’s medication provided at a discounted rate.

According to the release, she made sure the patient had enough money for his medication before he left the hospital. Peacemaker also called the pharmacy so the prescription was waiting when he arrived.

Thanks to Peacemaker’s efforts, the patient was able to pick up his cancer medication and make it to his appointment.

“Angela Peacemaker always puts her patients first,” Bonnie Perratto, RN, MSN, MBA, NEA-BC, FACHE, senior vice president and chief nursing executive, said in the release. “She is a great asset to our nursing team.”

Peacemaker joined Bayhealth in October 2010. She also served as a medical technician in the USAF for 20 years, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
