Paying it forward: Nursing scholarships help students take their education to the next level

Money is available to help nursing students earn higher degrees. Numerous leading educators, organizations and foundations continue to provide nursing scholarships for students who excel at education at the graduate level. From state to federal programs, nursing scholarships are available for online programs and traditional classroom courses. Plan your path to advanced education in 2014 and review the following nursing scholarships to get you started.

Nursing Economics Foundation

The Nursing Economics Foundation will award up to four $5,000 scholarships to nurses in a master’s or doctorate program with a concentration on administration or management. Check in April for the 2014 application.

AACN scholarships

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing along with awards two $5,000 scholarships four times each year. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in an AACN member institution that is affiliated with Upcoming application deadlines are Jan. 31 and April 30.

National Black Nurses Association

The National Black Nurses Association Inc. awards scholarships to nurses for continuing education so they can grow and better contribute their talents to the healthcare of various communities. Ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 in funding, these scholarships are available to NBNA members who are enrolled in a nursing program and have at least one year of school remaining. Tuition Back program

The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation offers a unique “tuition back” scholarship program. Nursing students have the opportunity to take quizzes offered throughout the year in several different categories. The quiz scores are based on time and accuracy. If your school participates in the Tuition Back Program, you may win up to $1,000. Winners attending a school not in the scholarship program can receive a $100 scholarship.
