Is it a good move for a newly licensed RN, with a BSN, to enter a DNP program?

I am a newly licensed BSN who wants to enroll in a DNP nurse executive administration program. Is it good for a newly licensed RN to enter a DNP program?

Wants to Get a DNP

Dear Donna replies:

Dear Wants to Get a DNP,

Every nurse is different. Each of us has to carve out our own path in nursing and follow our heart. If you are interested and motivated to pursue a DNP now, I say go for it.

You might also consider joining the American Organization of Nurse Executives (www.aone.org). This is an excellent way to find role models and mentors and rub elbows with the movers and shakers in nursing. It can also help to accelerate your leadership learning curve not to mention your
career trajectory.

Best wishes,

Donna
