The governing boards of Baylor Health Care System and Scott & White Healthcare announced the finalization of the merger of the two Texas health systems. The deal creates a new $8.3 billion nonprofit organization, according to a news release. The new Baylor Scott & White Health includes 43 hospitals, more than 500 patient care sites, more than 6,000 affiliated physicians, 34,000 employees and the Scott & White Health Plan. The new health system will be guided by a combined team of leaders from Baylor and Scott & White.
Baylor Scott & White Health is based in Dallas and Baylor Scott & White Health Service company is based in Temple, Texas. Over time, patients in the communities we serve will begin seeing the new brand Baylor Scott & White Health emerge, Joel Allison, CEO, Baylor Scott & White Health, said in the release.
Baylor and Scott & White first announced the merger plans in December 2012 and signed a definitive agreement in June 2013.
