Local healthcare training company educates nurses on Indian reservation

Mullahy & Associates, a Huntington, N.Y.-based educational and training resources company for nurses and healthcare professionals, recently presented a case management and educational program for the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center near Pendleton, Ore.

The health center provides outpatient primary care for members of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and other eligible American Indians, according to Yellowhawk’s website.

The two-day program, which was customized for the Yellowhawk care providers, is based on Mullahy & Associates’ “Best in Class Case Management – An Introduction to a Leading Edge Practice” program, the recipient of the prestigious Platinum Award presented by Case in Point at the National Press Club in 2011.

In a news release, Mullahy & Associates said it has a long-standing relationship with many case management department heads with the Veteran’s Administration and Indian Health Service. As part of the curriculum, attendees receive a copy of “The Case Manager’s Handbook,” authored by Catherine M. Mullahy, RN, BS, CRRN, CCM, president, Mullahy & Associates. The handbook’s fifth edition recently was released.

Yellowhawk’s services include outpatient medical, dental, mental health, alcohol/drug treatment and aftercare programs. In addition, Yellowhawk offers pharmacy services, medical laboratory, radiology and a DUII diversion program. Included among its outreach programs are public nursing, CHR services, WTC/nutrition, health education, senior meals and caregiver services.
