Nyack Hospital breast center earns 3-year accreditation

The Breast Center at Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

“Receiving this accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our team at The Breast Center at Nyack Hospital,” Patricia Joseph, MD, FACS, director of breast and women’s health services, said in a news release. “It is about each and every patient we serve and our role in ensuring that they have access to the highest quality and most compassionate care available.”

Accreditation by the NAPBC is given only to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergone a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. During the survey, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating the full spectrum of breast diseases. The standards include proficiency in center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast.

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 232,340 patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the U.S. in 2013. •
