International Nurses Association awards scholarship to HackensackUMC nurse

The International Nurses Association, New York City, honored a New Jersey nurse as its 2013 Scholarship Award winner.

Amy A. Werner, RN, CEN, CPEN, a specialty care transport nurse at HackensackUMC, was selected for her desire to advance in the nursing field, as well as her determination to surpass all financial obstacles that may stand in the way of her professional objectives, according to an INA news release.

Werner said she plans to use the $1,000 scholarship toward completing a master’s degree in nursing. She said she hopes to specialize in education.

In her current role, Werner uses her skills as a nurse along with her knowledge as an experienced paramedic.

The INA offers members a mentorship program and the opportunity to be contributing writers to Nurse Advisor, the publication of INA.

Through INA’s partnership with Dale Carnegie, a training organization focused on improving performance for companies and individuals, Werner also was presented with a certificate to attend any of the company’s programs. •
