Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital makes Best Children’s Hospitals list

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital received recognition for being ranked on U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-14 Best Children’s Hospitals list. The hospital placed 50th in orthopedics, pediatric category. Hospital leaders said the inclusion stands as a testament to the caliber of expertise that is available closer to home, according to a news release.

The list highlights the top 50 U.S. hospitals in each of these pediatric specialties: cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. Eighty-seven hospitals ranked in at least one of the 10 specialties. U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007. Three-quarters of each hospital’s score was determined through analysis of patient outcomes and data on the structural resources each hospital has for pediatric care, according to the release.

To gather data, U.S. News used two surveys: a clinical questionnaire sent to pediatric hospitals and, for the reputational assessment, a survey of pediatric specialists and subspecialists in each specialty. “We are honored to be ranked among the best programs in the country,” Chantal Leconte, administrator, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Services, Memorial Healthcare System, said in the release. “For our community, this is incredible news.”
