Local trio named to 100 Great Community Hospitals list

Three local healthcare facilities have been named to the 100 Great Community Hospitals list, as chosen by Becker’s Hospital Review.

The annual list recognizes high-performing hospitals that have fewer than 550 beds and minimal teaching programs.

This year, Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, N.J.; The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, N.J.; and Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., made the Becker’s list.

To compile this list, the Becker’s editorial team analyzes information, recognition and rankings from a variety of industry sources, including the American Nurses Credentialing Center, iVantage Health Analytics, Thomson Reuters and HealthGrades. Hunterdon is a Magnet-designated, 178-bed hospital. The hospital received Healthgrades’ Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award in 2011 and 2012 and received an “A” in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in 2013.

Valley is a 451-bed, Magnet-designated hospital that achieved Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards for cardiac care, cardiac surgery, coronary intervention, gastrointestinal care and general surgery in 2013.

Vassar Brothers, which opened on the banks of the Hudson River in 1887, is a 365-bed hospital that earned several 2013 Healthgrades awards, including the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence.
