University of Maryland assistant professor receives colleague award

Regina Twigg, RN, DNP, assistant professor, Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health, at the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, has been awarded the University of Maryland School of Nursing Colleague Award.

Twigg received the award at the University of Maryland Medical Center Nursing Excellence Awards ceremony during National Nurses Week. The UMSON Colleague Award is presented to a faculty member who has exemplified excellence as a mentor and educator, according to a news release.

“My partnership with the University of Maryland Medical Center and the School of Nursing has been invaluable,” Twigg said in the release. “I am especially grateful for how the medical center has graciously accommodated our students. To be recognized by an amazing group of nurses is truly one of the highest honors.”

A long-time clinical instructor for UMSON, Twigg recently has taken on the role of part-time clinical nurse for UMMC. She has been recognized by her peers as an educator who goes above and beyond her role with the school, using her clinical expertise and knowledge to educate, mentor, and lead the staff in advancing their clinical practice, according to the release. Twigg has dedicated much of her career to researching ways of improving clinical skills in nursing students prior to providing direct care.

“Regina has shown a true commitment to helping to grow our faculty’s clinical expertise and preparing our students for the workforce,” UMSON Dean Jane M. Kirschling, RN, PhD, FAAN, said in the release. “We are very fortunate to have someone on our team that has been an educator, mentor, and role model. Regina is truly a vital member of the faculty at the school of nursing.”
