Local nurses were honored during National Nurses Week at the Nurse of Distinction Awards ceremony. The 10th anniversary gala took place May 13 at the New York Marriot at the Brooklyn Bridge in front of more than 800 guests to celebrate National Nurses Week. A total of 69 RNs were nominated. The RN winners included:
Nurse of Distinction in a Hospital Setting: Iona Folkes, St. Johns Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway, N.Y. (winner); Tracie Newkirk, Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, N.Y. (first runner-up); and Keisha Ballentine, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, Manhattan (second runner-up).
Nurse of Distinction in a Nursing Home Setting: June Enniss, CenterLight Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, Brooklyn (winner).
Novice Nurse: Stefanie Zisholtz, Beth Israel Medical Center Petrie Division, Manhattan (winner).
Nurse Preceptor: Lorraine Munoz-Cuadrado, North Shore-LIJ Forest Hills (N.Y.) Hospital (winner).
Nurse Leader: Eva Edwards, Orange Regional (winner).
The awards are a collaboration between the 1199SEIU Healthcare Workers East union and the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes to honor peer-nominated RNs at 1199SEIU facilities.
