St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital organizes prom for pediatric patients

Prom season was in full swing around the country in May, including at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla. More than 50 pediatric patients dressed up in gowns and tuxedo jackets and took part in an Arabian Nights-themed prom night May 3 at the hospital.

The special evening included a mix of music, dancing, refreshments and keepsake photos.

Staff at St. Joseph’s Children’s organize special events, such as prom, to provide patients with experiences they might not otherwise have because of treatment and hospitalization.

“Hosting prom night is one of the many ways we strive to provide a sense of normalcy for our patients and their families,” said Amy Haddon, RN, BS, CCRN, a nurse manager at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. “Laughing, dancing and having fun can sometimes be just what the doctor ordered.”
