Grand Canyon University expands nursing program to Albuquerque

Grand Canyon University has expanded its nursing program with additional classrooms and hands-on teaching tools.

Modeled after the university’s campus in Phoenix, the renovated 16,249-square-foot location at Conejos Office Park in Albuquerque, N.M., features a skills and simulation lab, including a mock home healthcare setting.

“Nursing education is evolving, as jobs are moving out of hospitals and into outpatient facilities, community settings and patient homes,” Anne McNamara, RN, PhD, dean of Grand Canyon’s College of Nursing and Health Care Professions, said in a news release. “Today’s nurses also are assuming more specialized roles, applying advanced technologies and filling a void created by a shortage of primary care physicians.”

There also are conference rooms, faculty offices, a student lounge and the Antelope Reception Center, where enrollment counselors can meet with prospective students.

The Albuquerque program began in May 2011 at the request of executives at Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
