The Los Angeles Business Journal honored St. Vincent Medical Center’s President and CEO Cathy Fickes, RN, MHA, with its 2013 Healthcare Leadership Award for her achievements in improving patient satisfaction, effective strategic planning, improving revenues and building strong physician relations.

The award recognizes the accomplishments of individuals and organizations who have helped Los Angeles residents receive better healthcare.

Improving access to highly-specialized care, Fickes led the development of establishing the St. Vincent Spine Institute and the St. Vincent Cardiac Institute. Fickes has made achievements in community outreach by building a strong relationship with the Korean community through the Asian Pacific Liver Center, a hepatitis B research and outreach center.

Fickes makes weekly rounds at the hospital, visiting patients and their families. A believer in excellence in patient care, she also provides patients and their families her personal information to receive feedback on their experience with St. Vincent Medical Center.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with the Healthcare Leadership Award from the Los Angeles Business Journal,” Fickes said in a news release. “As a downtown Los Angeles hospital serving a very diverse patient population, we work tirelessly to provide quality, compassionate and culturally sensitive care to our patients and their families.”
