Mercy Medical Center ICU receives silver-level Beacon Award

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses recently gave the ICU at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore its silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence.

According to a news release, the award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six standards for a healthy work environment. Units that achieve this three-year award meet national criteria consistent with Magnet recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

The ICU earned the Beacon Award by meeting evidence-based criteria in leadership structures and systems; appropriate staffing and staff engagement; effective communication; knowledge management and best practices; evidence-based practice and processes; and patient outcomes.
