The Oct. 30 Seattle Nurse.com Career Fair at the Washington State Convention Center will offer nurses CE sessions, information about jobs and time to network with colleagues. It also will allow participants to earn up to 4 contact hours. Doors are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Build hope for the future of healthcare and gain a renewed sense of purpose in this session on nursings lessons from past leaders. Hansten will look at characteristics of some of the professions finest nurses and analyze the personal purpose and commitment each had to nursing. She also will examine what the Nightingale Pledge means to todays RNs and how they can derive power from its message.
Learn about best practices in outcome-focused healing encounters. Through simulation, participants will learn what is involved in an expert healing encounter and review research on timing, body language and focus of the caregiver, and relationships that can lead to “knowing” healing connections. Hansten also will review how to capture and celebrate connections for the rest of the care team.
In this closing session, Hansten will discuss how RNs can strengthen their team leadership skills to improve care and outcomes at the bedside and increase patient, family and staff satisfaction. She will review the five “rights” of delegation and supervision and describe needed skill sets. She also will look at the specifics of delegation and supervision, such as accountability and appropriate use of staff, initial direction in care planning, ongoing checkpoints and timelines for reporting and feedback.
