Florida and Texas nurses earn kudos

Meet Elizabeth Morse, RN, BSN, CPAN, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas

Elizabeth (Libby) Charmaine Morse, a nurse educator in surgical services at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, has been named the hospital’s Nurse of the Year.

“As a Magnet-designated organization, Libby exemplifies all the characteristics of a Magnet nurse, through role modeling of care, compassion, competency, and courage,” Cole Edmonson, RN, DNP, FACHE, NEA-BC, CNO and vice president of patient care services at Texas Health Dallas, said in a news release. “I am very proud that she is part of our professional team.”

An award-winning researcher, Morse recently presented findings related to unplanned perioperative hypothermia at the International Conference for PeriAnesthesia Nurses in Toronto, Canada, according to the release. The research team’s manuscript will appear in the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing this summer.

Morse, also was named to this year’s list of Great 100 Nurses. “Libby is a top performer and exemplifies excellence in everything she does,” Susan Cooper, RN, BSN, CPAN, nurse manager of the post-anesthesia care unit at Texas Health Dallas who nominated Morse for the award, said in the release. “She is really a ‘go-getter’; she is very proactive in staff education and ensures there are resources available to safely and competently care for our patients.” •

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne (Texas) — Lorrie Normand, RN, BSN, MHA, is the new CNO. She also is one of this year’s recipients of the prestigious Healthcare Hero Award. “Building a strong team with positive relationships will be the foundation for future successes at Texas Health Cleburne,” Normand said in a news release. “Life is too short not to enjoy what we do each day and who we do it with; and I plan to share that philosophy with hospital employees, volunteers and physicians on the medical staff.”

South Seminole Hospital, Orlando, Fla. — Cindy Stone, RN, MSHA, NE-BC, was named the new CNO. A board-certified nurse executive, Stone received a BSN from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of St. Francis.

Methodist Health System, Texas — honored four nurses as recipients of the DAISY Award, including Del Bacani, RN, Methodist Charlton; Tanya Davis, RN, Methodist Dallas; Ronda Higgins, RN, Methodist Mansfield; and Michelle Rivkin, RN, Methodist Richardson. They were honored with The DAISY Award for their extraordinary clinical skills and deeply compassionate actions.
