On May 12, the Visiting Nurse Service of New York conducted an awards ceremony to highlight recent achievements of the agency and its staff. The 2012 Celebrating Our Talent Ceremony was held at the Museum of the City of New York, where VNSNY is part of the Activist New York exhibit on display.
Mary Ann Christopher, RN, MSN, FAAN, VNSNY president and CEO, expressed her pride in the exhibit and appreciation for the VNSNY staff. “As we stand on the cusp of VNSNYs 120th anniversary, these reminders of our historic legacy could not be on exhibit at a more appropriate time,” Christopher said.
Marilyn Liota, RN, BSN, MA, a recent retiree, was honored for her six decades of service. The Liota Award to Promote Cultural Diversity in Nursing Leadership was established in her honor. Barbara Atkins, RN, MSN, ANP-BC, was named 2012 Clinician of the Year by the Visiting Nurse Associations of America and recognized for being a finalist in the Education and Mentorship category in Nurse.coms 2012 Nursing Excellence Awards and in the education category for the 2011 New York Times Tribute to Nurses Award.VNSNY president and CEO Mary Ann Christopher, RN.
Roslyn Fisher Morrison, RN, BSN, clinical director, acute care, Queens, was named a 2012 fellow of the Leadership Institute for Black Nurses at NYU College of Nursing. Jill Goldstein, RN, MA, MS, vice president, congregate care, received the 2012 Regional Leadership Award from the New York Organization of Nurse Executives.
Christopher received the 2012 Honorary Human Rights Award from the American Nurses Association; and Joan Marren, RN, MA, MEd, CEO of VNSNY, and president of VNSNY Home Care, was the 2011 Dr. Ildaura Murillo-Rohde Nursing Leadership Award from the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, NY chapter. •
