Chamberlain College of Nursing celebrates Nurses Night at Chicago’s Wrigley Field

Aileen Russo, a nursing student at Chamberlain College’s Addison, Ill., campus, sang the national anthem May 8 at Wrigley Field.

Chamberlain College of Nursing hosted Nurses Night at the Ballpark on May 8 at Wrigley Field during National Nurses Week.

The event featured two Chamberlain students in the spotlight before the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Atlanta Braves.

Aileen Russo, a nontraditional student at the Addison, Ill., campus, sang the national anthem. She was selected for the honor after winning the school’s “Chamberlain Idol” contest with her rendition of Journey’s “Open Arms.” Russo and her family were taken to the stadium in a limousine.

David Baban, a student at the Chicago campus, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.

Baban was chosen after submitting the winning video response to a contest question regarding the American Nurses Association’s Nurses Week theme — Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring. Contestants were asked, “How do you exemplify this theme in your daily life and how do you plan to demonstrate these characteristics in your career?”
