Advanced practice

Regarding the April 16 Upfront “Special (healthcare) delivery”: APNs often are touted as the solution to provide increased access to primary healthcare in the face of decline in the numbers of family practice physicians. While I strongly agree, I often wonder whether they also will quickly feel the pressure to see a specific number of patients each week.

Family practice APNs are positioned to make a change in healthcare delivery because of their integrated approach to care, including prevention and education with each patient visit. It would be a shame to see this practice diluted for financial reasons.
