Nassau University Medical Center’s cardiology department staff held a special staff education day in celebration of Heart Health Month. The East Meadow, N.Y., nurses provided blood pressure screening to employees, patients and visitors while providing education on ways to maintain good health.

Staff listened to testimony from cardiology patient Sylvia Martin, who had been in a car accident and did not know she had a heart condition. The physicians who treated Martin have been following her since October 2010. Now recovered, Martin spoke about her treatment and expressed her gratitude to the staff instrumental in her recovery.

The nurses presented Martin with flowers in appreciation for her inspiring speech to the staff.
