Lisa M. Easterby, RN, MSN, CNE, has been a part of the Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing in Camden, N.J., for nearly 25 years. On June 13, Easterby and more than 150 attendees celebrated the past five decades of the school’s history at a 50th anniversary event.

“The highlight for me was seeing the response to, and enjoyment of, the alumni, faculty and current students to the celebration,” said Easterby, the school’s dean. “I was most impressed with the high level of attendance and engagement that alumni, students and faculty enjoyed.”

Graduates from every decade attended the event, which began with a celebratory mass in the Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center chapel and continued with a three-hour gala in the school of nursing that included a silent auction.

Current students, from left, Karen Avgousti, Jennifer Brennan and LeeAnn Connell were among the 50th anniversary celebration attendees.

Graduates from California, Michigan, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey were treated to a history display by Deb DeVoe, RN, MSN, NE-BC, nursing instructor. Among the visitors were 37 current students, 23 past and present faculty, three former deans and various other health system associates, who each received a DVD of a slide show of the history of the school, including photos from the original construction.

Lourdes’ food and nutrition department presented a specially designed cake that was a replica of the original school.

As the current dean, Easterby presented a plaque that honored the past and present deans and directors of the school, to be displayed in the school lobby. She presented engraved wooden desk clocks to former deans: Sister M. John Francis Coyle (in absentia), Dorothy Letizia and Anne McGinley.
