RNs conduct Research Fun Fair at JCMC

As part of a National Nurses Week celebration, RNs at Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center held a Research Fun Fair May 9 for hospital employees and members of the community.

“We are proud to offer this day of learning. We know that when we give people information, they are empowered to act and can prevent disease or injury and maintain a healthier lifestyle,” said Maura Donohue, RN, BSN, nurse educator for the Educational Center for Professional Development.

Cathy Rajaram, RN, CCU staff nurse, left, checks Lorna Candido’s blood glucose. Candido, RN, is a staff nurse in the CCU.

With about 75 JCMC nurses staffing 19 educational booths, more than 200 participants learned about hand-washing, wound and fall prevention, stroke awareness, smoking cessation, glucose control, medication safety, pain management, the Sharing Network, passenger safety, crutch walking, cardiac care and more. Educational models and take-home handouts reinforced learning, and raffle prizes encouraged attendees to participate in every booth.
